Yacht charter in the Pontine Islands: everything you need to know

A yacht charter in the Pontine Islands means discovering a still uncrowded volcanic archipelago, halfway between Rome and Naples. Ponza has colourful coves and grottoes carved by the Romans, Palmarola is almost uninhabited and holds one of the finest anchorages in the Tyrrhenian, and Ventotene preserves an ancient Roman harbour cut into the tufa. It is an authentic sea, made of rocks, sea stacks and clear waters.

The most requested routes revolve around Ponza and Palmarola, the two most spectacular islands, with Zannone and its seabeds completing the group. VerdeBlu selects the crewed yacht best suited to the area, the season and the way you like to cruise, building every proposal to measure and with the utmost discretion.

A yacht rental in the Pontine Islands can range from a catamaran for the family to a superyacht with full crew, and VerdeBlu selects the vessel best suited to your style of cruising.

Indicative cruising costs

Fuel costs for motor yachts depend on the type of engines installed and their consumption, which varies from one vessel to another. Weather and cruising conditions can also significantly affect consumption.

For sailing yachts, fuel costs are generally lower, as the main propulsion is provided by the wind acting on the sails. The engine is used mainly for harbour manoeuvres or when wind conditions are insufficient.

Documents and regulations

The activity is governed by Article 2 of Legislative Decree no. 171 of 18 July 2005, the Code of Recreational Boating implementing Directive 2003/44/EC, in accordance with Article 6 of Law no. 172 of 8 July 2003.

The measure came into force on 15 September 2005 and is currently updated with the amendments published up to 9 May 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for your charter

Which Pontine Islands can I visit?
A yacht in the Pontine Islands can take in Ponza and Palmarola, the most spectacular, Zannone with its seabeds and, further south, Ventotene with its ancient Roman harbour.
Can I combine the Pontines with the Gulf of Naples?
Yes. For a yacht for rent in the Pontine Islands, the Gulf of Naples with Ischia and Procida is a few hours’ sailing to the south. A suggested itinerary is defined before departure, which the Captain adapts according to sea and weather conditions and the safety of the guests.
Is a boating licence required to charter?
No, a crewed yacht charter in the Pontine Islands does not require guests to hold a boating licence. Operating the yacht and holding the relevant qualifications is the responsibility of the qualified crew selected by the owner.
What is the recommended length of a cruise?
A charter can start from a weekend, but to truly appreciate the archipelago the most suitable option is a weekly or medium to long cruise, which leaves time to alternate stops ashore with days at anchor.
In Depth

Why choose the Pontine Islands for your next charter

The Pontines are an archipelago that is experienced almost only from the sea. Ponza is discovered cove after cove, with its pastel houses and grottoes cut into the tufa, while Palmarola, uninhabited, offers one of the finest anchorages in the Tyrrhenian. They are islands close to one another and still far from mass tourism, perfect for those seeking authenticity.

A yacht charter in the Pontine Islands offers the coves of Ponza, the anchorage of Palmarola and the Roman harbour of Ventotene. VerdeBlu selects the vessel best suited to your idea of a cruise, with respect for the sea and the marine protected areas, so that the beauty of these places remains intact.
