Yacht charter on the Costa Smeralda: everything you need to know

A yacht charter on the Costa Smeralda means sailing along the most exclusive stretch of Sardinia, where pink granite meets emerald waters. Porto Cervo with its piazzetta and its marina is the social heart of the coast, but a few miles are enough to find deserted coves such as those of Cala di Volpe and Romazzino. It is a coast of discreet luxury and incredible sea, a stone’s throw from the La Maddalena archipelago.

The most requested routes start from Porto Cervo and take in the coves of the coast and the La Maddalena archipelago, in the heart of Sardinia. VerdeBlu selects the crewed yacht best suited to the area, the season and the way you like to cruise, building every proposal to measure and with the utmost discretion.

The right yacht

A yacht rental on the Costa Smeralda can range from a catamaran for the family to a superyacht with full crew, and VerdeBlu selects the vessel best suited to your style of cruising.

Best Time

From May to October the climate is ideal, with emerald waters and sheltered coves, though in northern Sardinia the Mistral can pick up.

Indicative cruising costs

Fuel costs for motor yachts depend on the type of engines installed and their consumption, which varies from one vessel to another. Weather and cruising conditions can also significantly affect consumption.

For sailing yachts, fuel costs are generally lower, as the main propulsion is provided by the wind acting on the sails. The engine is used mainly for harbour manoeuvres or when wind conditions are insufficient.

Documents and regulations

The activity is governed by Article 2 of Legislative Decree no. 171 of 18 July 2005, the Code of Recreational Boating implementing Directive 2003/44/EC, in accordance with Article 6 of Law no. 172 of 8 July 2003.

The measure came into force on 15 September 2005 and is currently updated with the amendments published up to 9 May 2026.

Crew and tailored services

The crew is carefully selected and highly qualified, attending to every aspect of navigation and life on board with professionalism and discretion. Ashore, we can arrange transfers, car rental, restaurant reservations and experiences, designed around the preferences you indicate at the time of booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for your charter

What can I see on the Costa Smeralda by boat?
A yacht on the Costa Smeralda reaches the coves of Cala di Volpe, Romazzino and Capriccioli, the piazzetta of Porto Cervo and, a little further north, the La Maddalena archipelago.
Can I combine the Costa Smeralda with La Maddalena?
Yes. For a yacht for rent on the Costa Smeralda, the La Maddalena archipelago is a few miles to the north, and combines easily in a single cruise. A suggested itinerary is defined before departure, which the Captain adapts according to sea and weather conditions and the safety of the guests.
Is a boating licence required to charter?
No, a crewed yacht charter on the Costa Smeralda does not require guests to hold a boating licence. Operating the yacht and holding the relevant qualifications is the responsibility of the qualified crew selected by the owner.
Where is the best place to start from?
The most convenient base for the Costa Smeralda is Olbia, with its airport and its harbours a few minutes from the first coves.
