Yacht charter in Sardinia: everything you need to know

A yacht charter in Sardinia means sailing a sea that many consider the most beautiful in the Mediterranean. The pink granite of the Costa Smeralda meets emerald waters, the La Maddalena archipelago holds protected beaches such as the Pink Beach of Budelli and, on the east coast, the cliffs of the Gulf of Orosei hide coves reachable only from the sea. It is an island of white sand and rock, made for the boat.

The most requested routes start from the Costa Smeralda and the La Maddalena archipelago around Porto Cervo, while the Gulf of Orosei and the south offer wilder coasts. VerdeBlu selects the crewed yacht best suited to the area, the season and the way you like to cruise, building every proposal to measure and with the utmost discretion.

The right yacht

A yacht rental in Sardinia can range from a catamaran for the family to a superyacht with full crew, and VerdeBlu selects the vessel best suited to your style of cruising.

Indicative cruising costs

Fuel costs for motor yachts depend on the type of engines installed and their consumption, which varies from one vessel to another. Weather and cruising conditions can also significantly affect consumption.

For sailing yachts, fuel costs are generally lower, as the main propulsion is provided by the wind acting on the sails. The engine is used mainly for harbour manoeuvres or when wind conditions are insufficient.

Documents and regulations

The activity is governed by Article 2 of Legislative Decree no. 171 of 18 July 2005, the Code of Recreational Boating implementing Directive 2003/44/EC, in accordance with Article 6 of Law no. 172 of 8 July 2003.

The measure came into force on 15 September 2005 and is currently updated with the amendments published up to 9 May 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for your charter

Which areas of Sardinia can I choose?
A yacht in Sardinia can choose between the Costa Smeralda and La Maddalena in the north, the Gulf of Orosei on the east coast, and the south around Cagliari with Villasimius and Carloforte. Olbia is the most convenient base for the north.
Can I combine several areas of Sardinia?
Yes. For a yacht for rent in Sardinia, depending on the duration you can combine the Costa Smeralda and the Gulf of Orosei; the south, further away, calls for longer cruises. A suggested itinerary is defined before departure, which the Captain adapts according to sea and weather conditions and the safety of the guests.
Is a boating licence required to charter?
No, a crewed yacht charter in Sardinia does not require guests to hold a boating licence. Operating the yacht and holding the relevant qualifications is the responsibility of the qualified crew selected by the owner.
What is the recommended length of a cruise?
A charter can start from a weekend, but to truly appreciate a coast of Sardinia the most suitable option is a weekly or medium to long cruise, which leaves time to alternate stops ashore with days at anchor.
In Depth

Why choose Sardinia for your next charter

Sardinia has some of the most beautiful waters in the Mediterranean. In the north, the La Maddalena archipelago alternates granite islands and protected beaches, while the Costa Smeralda combines elegance and hidden coves. On the east coast, the cliffs of the Gulf of Orosei guard dazzling white beaches with no roads, reachable only from the water. It is an island that is at its best seen from the boat.

A yacht charter in Sardinia offers the granite of the Costa Smeralda, the beaches of La Maddalena and the coves of the Gulf of Orosei. VerdeBlu selects the vessel best suited to your idea of a cruise, with respect for the sea and the marine protected areas, so that the beauty of these places remains intact.
