Yacht charter in Genoa: everything you need to know

A yacht charter from Genoa means setting off from the largest sea city in the Mediterranean, in the central point of the Ligurian coast. From the regional capital you reach within a few hours the Portofino promontory and the villages of the Tigullio to the east, and the Riviera di Ponente to the west. It is a convenient and well-connected base, from which to explore both Ligurian rivieras.

Indicative cruising costs

Fuel costs for motor yachts depend on the type of engines installed and their consumption, which varies from one vessel to another. Weather and cruising conditions can also significantly affect consumption.

For sailing yachts, fuel costs are generally lower, as the main propulsion is provided by the wind acting on the sails. The engine is used mainly for harbour manoeuvres or when wind conditions are insufficient.

Documents and regulations

The activity is governed by Article 2 of Legislative Decree no. 171 of 18 July 2005, the Code of Recreational Boating implementing Directive 2003/44/EC, in accordance with Article 6 of Law no. 172 of 8 July 2003.

The measure came into force on 15 September 2005 and is currently updated with the amendments published up to 9 May 2026.

Why choose Genoa for your next charter

Genoa is the most central starting point in Liguria. On one side lies the Gulf of Tigullio, with Portofino, San Fruttuoso and the most elegant villages of the eastern riviera; on the other the Riviera di Ponente, with its beaches and harbours as far as the French border. The city itself, with its great old port and historic centre, is worth a stop before or after the cruise.
