Yacht charter in Liguria: everything you need to know

A yacht charter in Liguria means sailing along one of the most elegant rivieras in the Mediterranean. The colourful villages of the Cinque Terre cling to the rock, Portofino guards one of the most famous little harbours in the world and the waters of the Gulf of Poets have inspired generations of writers. It is a short but intense coast, made of sea and villages perched on the cliffs.

The most requested routes range from the Gulf of Tigullio, with Genoa and Portofino, to the Cinque Terre and the Gulf of Poets, all the way to the Riviera di Ponente. VerdeBlu selects the crewed yacht best suited to the area, the season and the way you like to cruise, building every proposal to measure and with the utmost discretion.

Indicative cruising costs

Fuel costs for motor yachts depend on the type of engines installed and their consumption, which varies from one vessel to another. Weather and cruising conditions can also significantly affect consumption.

For sailing yachts, fuel costs are generally lower, as the main propulsion is provided by the wind acting on the sails. The engine is used mainly for harbour manoeuvres or when wind conditions are insufficient.

Documents and regulations

The activity is governed by Article 2 of Legislative Decree no. 171 of 18 July 2005, the Code of Recreational Boating implementing Directive 2003/44/EC, in accordance with Article 6 of Law no. 172 of 8 July 2003.

The measure came into force on 15 September 2005 and is currently updated with the amendments published up to 9 May 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for your charter

Which places of Liguria can I visit by boat?
A yacht in Liguria calls within a few days at Portofino and Santa Margherita in the Tigullio, the Cinque Terre and Portovenere in the Gulf of Poets, and to the west the riviera of flowers around Sanremo.
Can I combine Liguria with the French Riviera?
Yes. For a yacht for rent in Liguria, the Riviera di Ponente borders the French Riviera, and the two combine easily in a single cruise. A suggested itinerary is defined before departure, which the Captain adapts according to sea and weather conditions and the safety of the guests.
Is a boating licence required to charter?
No, a crewed yacht charter in Liguria does not require guests to hold a boating licence. Operating the yacht and holding the relevant qualifications is the responsibility of the qualified crew selected by the owner.
What is the recommended length of a cruise?
A charter can start from a weekend, but to truly appreciate the Ligurian riviera the most suitable option is a weekly or medium to long cruise, which leaves time to alternate stops ashore with days at anchor.
In Depth

Why choose Liguria for your next charter

Liguria is a coast that is at its best seen from the sea. The villages of the Cinque Terre, with no real harbour, are admired from the water as from nowhere else, and Portofino shows its finest profile only to those who arrive by boat. In a few miles you go from an elegant little harbour to a quiet bay beneath a headland of pines.

A yacht charter in Liguria offers the little harbour of Portofino, the villages of the Cinque Terre and the Gulf of Poets. VerdeBlu selects the vessel best suited to your idea of a cruise, with respect for the sea and the marine protected areas, so that the beauty of these places remains intact.
