Yacht charter in the Mediterranean: everything you need to know

A yacht charter in the Mediterranean means waking up to a different horizon every day. One morning it is a bay reachable only from the water, the next a village perched above the sea or the reserved table of a restaurant on the harbour. It is the most free and private way to experience this sea, at a pace set by you and not by the mainland.

It runs from the glamour of the French Riviera, Saint-Tropez and Porto Cervo to the empty coves of Corsica and Sardinia, from the villages of the Amalfi Coast to the turquoise waters of the Balearics, all the way to the islands of Greece with the Cyclades and the indented coastline of Croatia. VerdeBlu selects the crewed yacht best suited to the area, the season and the way you like to cruise, building every proposal to measure and with the utmost discretion.

The right yacht

A yacht rental in the Mediterranean can range from a catamaran for the family to a superyacht with full crew, and VerdeBlu selects the vessel best suited to your style of cruising.

What’s included in a VerdeBlu charter

Indicative cruising costs

Fuel costs for motor yachts depend on the type of engines installed and their consumption, which varies from one vessel to another. Weather and cruising conditions can also significantly affect consumption.

For sailing yachts, fuel costs are generally lower, as the main propulsion is provided by the wind acting on the sails. The engine is used mainly for harbour manoeuvres or when wind conditions are insufficient.

Documents and regulations

The activity is governed by Article 2 of Legislative Decree no. 171 of 18 July 2005, the Code of Recreational Boating implementing Directive 2003/44/EC, in accordance with Article 6 of Law no. 172 of 8 July 2003.

The measure came into force on 15 September 2005 and is currently updated with the amendments published up to 9 May 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for your charter

Which areas of the Mediterranean can I choose?
A yacht in the Mediterranean can follow very different routes. Among the most requested: the French Riviera with Corsica, Sardinia with the Costa Smeralda, the Gulf of Naples with Capri and the Amalfi Coast, the islands of Sicily, Croatia and Greece with its islands.
Can I combine several countries in a single cruise?
Yes. Depending on the charter duration and the cruising area, several stretches of coast can be combined, for example the French Riviera and Corsica or Italy and Croatia. A suggested itinerary is defined before departure, which the Captain adapts according to sea and weather conditions and the safety of the guests.
What is the recommended length of a cruise?
A yacht for rent in the Mediterranean can start from a weekend, but to truly appreciate an area the most suitable option is a weekly or medium to long cruise, which leaves time to alternate stops ashore with days at anchor.
Is a boating licence required to charter?
No, a crewed yacht charter in the Mediterranean does not require guests to hold a boating licence. Operating the yacht and holding the relevant qualifications is the responsibility of the qualified crew selected by the owner.
In Depth

Why choose the Mediterranean for your next charter

During a yacht charter in the Mediterranean there always comes a moment when time changes pace. The anchor drops into a cove no road can reach, the engine falls silent and all that remains is the sun reflected on the water. This is what makes the Mediterranean a sea of its own, able to alternate within a single week the elegance of the most famous harbours and the silence of anchorages that only those who sail ever discover.

Every route tells a different story, made of villages facing the sea, caves and nature reserves reachable only from the water, tables laid with freshly caught fish and traditions that change at every port of call. Aboard a crewed yacht all of this unfolds effortlessly, with the freedom to choose day by day where to stop. VerdeBlu selects the yacht best suited to your idea of a cruise, with respect for the sea and its marine protected areas, so that the beauty of these places remains intact.
